‘Achingly beautiful, powerful stuff’ (Q.I.M) Since moving to Southwell in 2007 singer Anna Elias has been writing songs inspired by the town and the surrounding rural landscape combined with her own experiences and reflections. Writing with guitarist and husband Harvey they are currently completing the band’s debut album 'Valleys in the Flat Lands’ under the name ‘Anna Elias & the Forlorn Hope’. The album is being produced by acclaimed folk producer Ich Mowatt (‘Threads’ & 'The Life of Lilly’ – Ruth Notman).
The music blends a variety of influences from contemporary and
traditional folk to classic acoustic harmony and features some exciting
collaborations with melodeon player & 2010 Radio 2 Folk musician of the
year nominee Saul Rose (Waterson-Carthy, Colston & Rose, Faustus). The
band has also been working with the boys of the Southwell Minster Choir
on a piece called ‘Evensong’ which features a choral arrangement by
composer Guy Turner. Summer 2010 will see Anna Elias & the Forlorn Hope playing a number of festivals to launch the new album along with a BBC live session and a headline tour in the autumn. |
