Tom McConville, is one of the leading fiddle players
of our time. In great demand as a performer, session musician and
teacher, playing the fiddle is his lifelong passion and he has achieved
every player’s dream of creating his own unique, instantly recognisable
sound.? His live performances combine a rollercoaster of musical
delights from fast, rhythmic dance tunes through beautiful slow airs,
all presented with his inimitable sense of humour and style.
As well as Tom, the Big Band comprises:
David Newey (guitars), a finalist in the Young Traditional
Musician of the Year contest 2003.
Phil Murray (bass), a founder member of the legendary
Hedgehog Pie and folk rockers Jack the Lad, Phil also records
and tours with the Doonan Family Band. Phil has played major
venues and festivals all over the world.
Shona Kipling (accordion) Shona was a finalist in the BBC Young Folk Awards and was the only female and only traditional musician out of 2000 applicants to be awarded the first BBC Fame Academy Bursary. She graduated from Newcastle University with a first class degree in folk and traditional music.
Andy Watt (guitar, mandolin) Andy is a talented young guitar and mandolin player from Central Scotland, currently studying on the acclaimed traditional music degree at Newcastle University.
Peter Tickell (fiddle,
viola) Newcastle's most talented and exciting new fiddler - Peter was a finalist in Radio 2's, "Young Folk Awards" of 2001. Peter has worked with Peatbog Faeries, Evelyn Glennie, Billy Mitchell and Ben Murray
and Rosie Doonan, and the Kathryn Tickell Band.
