The Performers (continued).
Something Nasty in the Woodshed
Something
Nasty in the Woodshed are not a Folk band, nor a rock band but a band with their
toes dappling in both ponds. With songs of Jacobean derring do and seagoing
grief, they bring a refreshing blast of tempo and rhythm to the folk traditions
of the British Isles without the aid of dodgy knitwear. In their own words,
they: “Take the reels and jigs from the attics of their ancestors and plug them
into the National Grid”. Their 5-piece line up features guitars, mandolins,
citterns, drums and bagpipes and they were enjoyed so much at Southwell 2007
that they’ve been invited back this year.

Stanley Accrington
Stanley
emerged from full obscurity to almost total obscurity in the last dark days of
the 1970’s
and realised that he would have to put in a lot of work to build up a performing
career, so he set about it. The song writing came easily – a conveyor belt of
songs inspired by current events or the style of artists he encountered on his
travels. He therefore embarked on a series of visits to folk music venues in
nearby West Yorkshire and built up a bedrock of bookings and a growing
reputation as an oddball performer. He continues to write material in a range of
styles. Some of his songs have been picked up and sung, and recorded, by other
artists. What keeps him going is the compulsive urge to write songs, to
incorporate new styles and, mainly, to have fun.
