Morris On (Saturday)
Morris On was the iconic 1972 album that brought morris music to the charts. Following commercial success with both Fairport Convention and Steeleye Span, Ashley Hutchings (pictured) decided to take his passion for traditional English music and dance to its obvious conclusion and record an album of morris tunes. Highly acclaimed at the time, the original lineup included the likes of John Kirkpatrick, Richard Thompson and Dave Mattacks and has since spawned Son of Morris On, Grandson of Morris On and Great Grandson.
In the intervening 40 years Ashley has become synonymous with championing English traditions with the Albion Band (now passed on to his son Blair) and for his work on Lark Rise to Candleford in conjunction with the National Theatre. Still writing, arranging and touring, Ashley takes a pause to relive the magic of Morris On with a new line up including Simon Care, Guy Fletcher, Gavin Davenport and Tom Wright.
