A busy programme of music and dance workshops will be
given by many of the artists appearing:

Friday 11th

Easthorpe Hall
16.15-17.15
- Beginners Rapper Workshop with the Demon Barbers
( If wet - in the children’s marquee) Mainly for children.
16.15-17.30 - Clog Workshop with the Demon Barbers. All ages , featuring a chance to meet Dot Murphie.

Saturday 12th

Children’s Marquee
11.00-12.00
- Children’s Band Workshop. Beginner’s workshops on each day will provide guidance & the chance to try a variety of simple instruments eg. Whistles, bodhrans, mini melodeons and ukeleles..
12.00-13.00 - Sing and Learn with The Carrivicks. Laura and Charlotte will entrance & inspire with their dexterity, also giving the opportunity to learn about the instruments and join in the songs.
14.00-15.00 - Children’s Band Workshop (see above).

- Songwriting with Benny Gallagher and Jez Lowe.
A rare chance to compare the contrasting styles of two of our finest songwriters. Benny’s sensitive approach has seen his songs gain great commercial success both for himself and former partner Graham Lyle and for other artists. Described by fellow songwriter Richard Thompson as “one of the finest songwriters to come out of England,” Jez’s songs of social comment and local issues are covered widely on the folk scene.

- Improvisation. Members of the QP Band will demonstrate the use of improvisation to embellish and enhance tunes. All abilities and instruments.

12.00-13.00 - Playing European Folk Music Jon Loomes and Murray Grainger of Hérétique, using accordion, hurdy gurdy and guitar, will illustrate techniques used in European folk music. All abilities and instruments.

14.30-15.30 - Blues Guitar and Harmonica with Steven Finn. A hands on workshop showing how you use the tools of the trade - National, slide, harmonica and various tunings to add variety to your playing, in the context of pre-war folk and blues songs.

- All-comers Singing Workshop with the Rainmakers featuring contemporary Australian rounds and simple songs with gorgeous harmonies and funky rhythms .Jane Thompson and James Rigby are experienced and skilled choir leaders from Victoria, and their warm and inviting style will make everyone feel welcome.

11.30-12.30 - Northern Tunes Fiddle workshop with Kate Bramley. Suited to all fiddling levels except absolute beginners, exploring some of the diverse tunes and rhythms from the North of England.

13.30-14.30 - Bluegrass Workshop with the Carrivicks. A demonstration of the rules and conventions that apply in bluegrass, how it differs from British music and the role of each instrument.

Sunday 13th

- Guitar Seminar: Four of our finest guitarists Clive Carroll, Phil Hare, John Smith and Roger Sutcliffe will demonstrate what can be achieved with dedication, application and a misspent youth.

15.00-16.00 - Songs, Dances and Music Making with Liam Robinson. Fun for the kids in the company of Liam, the man behind Lincoln based ‘Mini Morris’
16.00-18.00 - Children’s Band Workshop featuring a showcase slot with members of the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain.
All Day. Carnival Costume Workshop

- Border Dance Workshop led by Poacher Morris. An introduction suitable for all ages.

- A Personal View of the Blues with Roger Sutcliffe. With the help of slides, four different guitars and a mandolin, Roger will bring to life some of the greats & lesser known characters of the blues who have influenced him and other British musicians.
12.00-13.00 - Guitar tunings workshop with Phil Hare. The ‘Bad Dad of DADGAD’ illustrates this and other alternative tunings.

- Accordion workshop with Shona Kipling

11.30-12.30 - Harmony Singing for Folk Song with the Kittiwakes
This workshop will provide an introduction to group singing and harmony for folk song. For all ages and abilities.

13.15-14.15 - Concertina and melodeon workshop with Brian Peters and Liam Robinson . A chance for these two fine box players to swap ideas and techniques and show how to use their instruments to accompany song and each other.

- Youth Workshop with Ben and Joe Broughton involving intermediate level students from local schools but anybody else is welcome to attend. Part of the time will be given over to learning a couple of simple morris tunes to accompany a performance at 12.30 on the main site from local junior school children.
